Walmart Surprises Firefighters Across Georgia with Big Game Meal Baskets

From Walmart – Walmart announced a donation of its one-click Big Game bundle to firehouses across Georgia prior to Sunday’s football game, including serving all 22 firehouses that comprise the Macon-Bibb Fire Department. In total, Walmart donated over 300 meal baskets to more than 100 fire stations across the state, including those in Atlanta, Alpharetta, Athens, Augusta, Decatur, Douglasville, East Point, Marietta, Morrow, Snellville, Norcross, and Tucker.

Coming during Firefighter Appreciation Week, the initiative aims to boost morale and show appreciation to those firefighters who can’t celebrate at home. The donation was made in partnership with the Georgia State Firefighters Association (GSFA) and Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs (GAFC).

“While no gesture can match the magnitude of the daily sacrifices first responders make for us, we’re excited to give those on-call the opportunity to enjoy the food and camaraderie that comes with celebrating the Big Game,” said Marchaz McAfee, Walmart Market Manager. “Giving back to communities we serve is core to who we are at Walmart, and it’s a privilege to show up for them in this way.”

As part of Firefighter Appreciation in Georgia, the Georgia State Firefighters Association (GSFA) and Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs (GAFC) presenting awards to outstanding firefighters on Tuesday.

“No one gets in this field for credit or glory, but it is still incredibly meaningful when we get this type of support from individuals and companies in the community,” says Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “Between Firefighter Appreciation Day and this major surprise to lift the spirits of our dedicated first responders during Sunday’s game, we are all feeling extremely grateful and supported.”
