Governor allowing some businesses to reopen, maintains shelter in place

Commissioners, Board of Health disagree, ask for reconsideration

On April 20, Governor Brian Kemp announced he would allow certain businesses to reopen either Friday, April 24 or Monday, April 27 as long as they held to specific restrictions. The Order says that local governments cannot take any more nor any less action related to a COVID-19 response. On Tuesday, April 21, the Macon-Bibb Commission approved a Resolution expressing concerns about reopening businesses this soon and that the Governor postpone action, as well as to allow the Commission to make decisions for our community based on local public health information. Heath officials in prior days had indicated the peak of COVID-19 cases and deaths could be several weeks away for Macon-Bibb. To read the Resolution, click here.

The following day, the Macon-Bibb Board of Health passed a similar Resolution, asking for more local control to determine what would be safest for our community using local testing data and working with local healthcare providers. You can see that resolution below.
