At the Macon-Bibb County Commission meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, Pastor Bo Turner with Real Life Church delivered the invocation. Here is some information about Pastor Turner:

Pastor Bo is third-generation Pentecostal, born into a pastor’s home. Accepting the call to ministry in 1988, he served as State Evangelist of the Church of God of Prophecy until 1991. In December of 2007 Pastor Bo, heeding the call of God, moved from South Georgia to Macon, Georgia to become Senior Pastor of Real Life Church, one of the fastest growing churches in the middle Georgia area, with over 1,100 members. Since taking over as Senior Pastor he has launched a new television ministry, airing on Our Local CTN, entitled “Living the Real Life”. Pastor Bo is married to his lovely wife Melissa of 27 years and they have three children Blake 25, Dalton 19, and Connor 13.

Real Life Church youth members Gerald Acosta and Bailey Albritton led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Gerald is a 6th grader at Howard Middle school. He enjoys learning Math and competing on the Math Team. Gerald has also participated as one of the lead actors in church productions. He enjoys playing chess and video games

Bailey Albritton is a Junior at Central High School where she plays the violin in Orchestra. Bailey has been accepted into the Dual Enrollment Program at Central Georgia Technical College in Macon. Bailey wants to become a Speech Pathologist. Bailey has been a member of Real Life Church for two years and volunteers in Real Kids World which she enjoys.

We want to thank Gerald, Bailey, and Pastor Bo Turner for taking part in the civic process and contributing to our meeting.

At the meeting, Mayor Reichert read a proclamation declaring October “Period Poverty Awareness Month,” and recognizing Macon Periods Easier for their work in ending period poverty in our community. Period poverty is described as not having access to menstrual supplies, adequate bathroom facilities, education, or other needs relating to menstruation. Old Business

Commissioners approved reappointing George Thomas to the Macon-Bibb Board of Tax Assessors.

A new park will be named in memory of a beloved community activist. The new park planned for Lynmore Avenue will be named The Frankie Everett Lewis Memorial Park in honor of Ms. Lewis’ efforts to improve her neighborhood.

The Board agreed to transfer 2.35 acres of property in and around the former Virgil Powers School Building to the Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority.

Commissioners approved leasing 60 golf carts and four utility vehicles for Historic Bowden Golf Course.

 The Board approved a Master Lease Agreement with Ricoh USA for copier machines.

Commissioners approved an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Macon-Bibb County Enhancement Authority to provide maintenance for Jefferson Long Park and Linear Park. They also approved money from the general fund balance to go towards the upkeep.

The Board approved a renewal installment agreement for the Macon-Bibb County IT Department with Dell Financial Services for three years for software purchases and support.

Commissioners approved an amendment to an agreement with CorrectHealth Bibb, LLC for medical and mental health services for inmates at Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

The Board approved an amendment to an agreement with SafeBuilt Georgia for extension of services being provided to the Business Development Services Department.

Commissioners approved an agreement with Skyline Construction Services to repair the Macon City Auditorium Roof.

New recreation equipment is coming to  Claystone, Sandy Beach, and Arrowheads parks at Lake Tobesofkee. Commissioners approved a plan with Miracle Recreation Equipment Company for $223,614.29 in voter-approved SPLOST funds.

Bass Road will undergo a widening project. The Board approved an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation. You can read the details on this long-awaited project here.

Commissioners approved a Five Year Short Term Work Program and Capital Improvements Element Update.

The Board voted to accept a $15,000 Health Promotion & Wellbeing Grant from ACCG’s Group Health Benefits Program. 

They also accepted a grant for the Bibb County Solicitor General’s Office. The $25,000 award is for victims of crime, and comes from the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.

Downtown Macon-Bibb will once again be transformed into a winter wonderland this holiday season! The Board of Commissioners agreed to transfer $51,000 to NewTown Macon to help pay for the Main Street Christmas Light Extravaganza.

Commissioners approved using $750,000 in voter-approved SPLOST funds for new LED lighting and court resurfacing at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center.

The Board voted to amend the Macon-Bibb Code of Ordinances to add a new Article to address wireless facilities and antennas.

The Board voted to reaffirm its commitment to completing improvements along Jeffersonville Road. They also requested an assessment of options, costs, and funding sources.
