Macon – A Macon man was sentenced to serve 30 years in prison Wednesday, nearly two weeks after jurors found him guilty of shooting a man and leaving him paralyzed.

Denyke Trayvon Glenn, 23, was convicted of armed robbery, aggravated assault and aggravated battery on May 16 following a four-day trial in Bibb County Superior Court.

Prosecutor Sandra Matson presented evidence during the trial showing:

Glenn and two other people went to a Bloomfield Road home just after midnight on Feb. 9, 2017, to buy marijuana from a then-25-year-old Macon man. But, instead of completing the transaction, Glenn shot the man at point-blank range, shattering his spine. He also robbed the man of the drugs before trying to drive off.

The victim’s mother testified she awoke to the sound of gunshots. After finding her son had been shot, she pulled on the door of a Honda leaving the driveway, causing Glenn to drive into a tree and damage the car.

Physical evidence, including the damage to the car, corroborated witnesses’ testimony. A GBI firearms expert testified shell casings recovered from the scene were consistent with being fired from a 9-milimeter Jennings handgun. A conversation pulled from Glenn’s Facebook page showed he was talking about having a black Jennings 9-millimeter within 24 hours of the shooting.

Speaking after the sentencing, Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke said, “Mr. Glenn made his victim a prisoner in his own body who will never walk outside again. With this sentence, Mr. Glenn won’t either for decades to come.”
