At the Macon-Bibb County Commission Meeting on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, The Board of Commissioners met via Zoom to vote on several items. You can click each one below to learn more. The Commission approved several people to serve on Boards.

 

 

 

 


Commissioners approved a resolution recognizing October 2020 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Commissioners approved using eminent domain to acquire the property at 381 Monroe Street.


The Board approved transferring $28 million from the general fund to multiple accounts to settle outstanding purchase orders.


Commissioners voted to amend the FY20 budget to even out revenues and expenditures.


The Board approved a budget transfer of $807,403 for the Macon-Bibb Transit Authority. Learn more about MTA, their new buses, and how they’re keeping riders and employees safe by visiting their Facebook page.


Macon-Bibb employees won’t be furloughed due to revenue being higher than budgeted. Because of that, commissioners approved adding back in more than $3M to the budget. Hear from County Manager Keith Moffett and read additional details by clicking here.


Commissioners are taking steps to secure a safer Government Center. They approved using $63,000 to purchase security systems.


The Board approved a Professional Services Agreement for the Tax Assessor’s Office with GMASS for $143,500 per year for three years for real property pricing schedules.


Commissioners authorized the Mayor to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bibb County School District to provide $765,000 in CARES Act funding to develop remote learning capabilities for students and families affected by COVID-19.

 

 


The Board is taking the next steps in the Freedom Park Phase III plan. They approved $8,675 for Geotechnical Environmental Consultants, Inc. for testing ahead of the improvement project. So far, Freedom Park has received new baseball and softball fields, concession areas, bathrooms, a splash pad, and more thanks to voter-approved SPLOST funds.


Commissioners also approved the 27th amendment to the SPLOST project timeline.


The Board renewed a lease agreement with the Georgia Cooperative Extension for office space on First Street. The Cooperative Extension offers a variety of services for the community. Learn more by visiting their Facebook page.


Commissioners approved $5,500 for furniture in the Macon-Bibb Municipal Court office.


The Board approved $35,000 to purchase licensing Management Software for the Tax Commissioner’s Office.


Commissioners approved spending $7,000 from the Tax Assessor’s budget for mapping services to get ready for the FY20201 Tax Digest.


The Board approved spending $700,000 to amend budgets and organizational charts to fill vacancies and create certain new positions with the County Government.


Macon-Bibb County Commission meetings are on the first and third Tuesdays each month, with the Pre-Commission meeting starting at 5 p.m., and the full Commission meeting at 6 p.m. Committee Meetings are on second and fourth Tuesdays at 9 a.m. All of these can be viewed on our Facebook page, and website.
