Severe Weather Update

by forwarding it to your friends, family, and coworkers.)

The Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency hosted a weather briefing Tuesday afternoon to hear from the National Weather Service (NWS) about severe weather continuing to move through the state Tuesday night through early Thursday morning. For Macon-Bibb County, it is expected that the storms will move through during the night. Attached is an image from the NWS with the forecast for today and tomorrow. This is subject to change, so please check your local media or the Peachtree City NWS website for the most up-to-date information.

This is still being forecast as a multi-day event, including possible tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, and flooding. According to the NWS, the greatest risk right now appears to be in along the I-85 Corridor through Atlanta, but that could change based on a number of factors. People are still asked to prepare for severe thunderstorms, damage from strong winds, and the potential for hail and/or tornadoes.

“Since this storm is coming through during the night and early hours, we want to make sure you are provided with the information necessary to properly prepare,” says EMA Director Don Druitt. “With there still being some uncertainty of how these storms will travel through the state and how it will affect Macon-Bibb, we want to continue to caution people to be careful and to make sure we are prepared to respond.”

The EOC will activate at 4:00 a.m. Wednesday to monitor the storms, and crews from the Departments of Public Works and Parks & Beautification will be ready to respond to any storm damage such as fallen trees and limbs. To contact EMA to report unsafe road conditions, call 478-832-6300 beginning at 4:00 a.m.

“Make sure you have a NOAA weather radio, have your phones charged, have a safety kit prepared, and watch the changing weather forecast,” adds Druitt. “Looking towards the end of the week, we also have the potential for flooding along the Ocmulgee River, depending on the amount of rain that falls.”
