Yard & bulk waste collection week ahead

Ryland Environmental is continuing its transition to the new solid waste collection company for all Macon-Bibb County, and this past week, they were finishing up delivery of the new trash (red) and recycling (blue) carts while emptying all other carts on the curb to help clean up our neighborhoods.

Recycling and yard/bulk waste collection alternates every week, and this upcoming week (January 10-14) will be for yard & bulk waste. Below is a graphic on how to best put that material on the curb. The biggest changes people should be aware of are:

  • Collection will happen on your normal trash collection day, and that can be determined by visiting https://sw.maconbibb.us and using the map to enter your address; and
  • Leaves and yard debris need to be in biodegradable bags or in a neat pile, not in plastic bags or cans.

As Ryland started collecting county-wide on January 3, a number of questions arose on social media and through phone calls. Below is a quick list of some information provided from those questions.

  • Collection days are NOT changing. There was a mixup with the flyers; all the tips and the calendar are correct. Check your collection day at https://sw.maconbibb.us.
  • Recycling and yard & bulk waste will be on the same day of the week as trash collection.
  • Ryland is emptying the old carts this next week. Once you have the new carts and the old carts are empty, STOP using the old carts.
  • ADS/WM will soon begin picking up the old, empty carts. They belong to that company. Put them empty in the curb on your normal collection day. This will take several weeks to get the estimated 70,000 carts.
  • Recycling carts are going to the houses in our records, but we know that’s not a complete list since distribution was turned over to ADS a few years back. You can request one (if you didn’t get one) at www.Maconbibb.us/SeeClickFix.
  • You’ll get the number of trash cans you’re paying for, which is $20 per month per trash cart. Ryland has the list of who is paying for more than one.
  • Ryland will do back-door cart pickup if you are registered with the Solid Waste Department. Ryland has that list, and you can check your address by calling Solid Waste at 803-0499.
