Women's History Month 2021

The Mayor and Commission proclaimed March as Women’s History Month in Macon-Bibb. Go to www.instagram.com/maconbibbcounty as we recognize the women working in our consolidated government.

At the Commission Meeting on Tuesday, March 2, District 2 Commissioner Elaine Lucas read a proclamation recognizing March 2021 as Women’s History Month in Macon-Bibb County. Women in attendance came up to the front of the room during the reading, which details accomplishments of many women. You can watch that presentation at the 2:00 minute mark in this video.

Through the month of March, the Office of Communications highlights women working for our government with the “Women of Macon-Bibb” Instagram campaign. This is the sixth year for the campaign. Ms. Brooks passed away in February 2016, so we asked Commissioner Elaine Lucas for a quote in her memory.

Commission Lucas says, “Delores Brooks was a strong force and a committed advocate for the people. She always put citizens first. I learned a lot from her and was proud to sponsor the resolution to change the East Macon Park to Delores A. Brooks Recreation Center.”

We’re proud to celebrate Ms. Brooks’ legacy for the first day of Women’s History Month 2021 in Macon-Bibb.
