It has been 23 years since the horrific attacks on our nation on September 11, 2001. To remember the lives lost and honor first responders, the Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation held its 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 in Public Safety Memorial Park. You can watch the full ceremony here.
“Terrorist attacks can shake the foundation of our buildings, but not the foundation of our people. Always remember that we were targeted because we are the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity,” said Warren Selby with the Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation. “The memory of those who died on 9/11 reminds us why we must continue to fight evil.”
During the ceremony, there was a Presentation of Colors by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and Macon-Bibb County Fire Department Honor Guard. Roses were placed on the Memorial by representatives from the Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office as a symbol that Macon-Bibb will never forget the sacrifice made by these individuals in service to the community.
A wreath was also placed at the Memorial to remember those that lost their life on 9/11 and to honor all men and women in public safety, and bagpiper Scott Gunn played “Amazing Grace.” The ceremony ended with a flyover from Georgia State Patrol’s aviation unit.
