Macon-Bibb County will temporarily close the railroad crossing at Forsyth and Tucker Roads beginning Wednesday, December 18, at 10:00 a.m. The north and south bound stop signs will also be removed, allowing for the free flow of traffic along Rivoli Drive, and Norfolk Southern will assist by ensuring the crossing area is protected and cannot be accessed by vehicles. This temporary change will give the county a chance to look at safer traffic patterns and options for the area.
“There is a great deal of concern about the safety of that intersection due to its design, as well as how traffic flows through the whole area, and we want to use this time to determine if there are permanent changes that can make it safer,” says Mayor Lester Miller.
