Mayor Lester Miller and Atrium Health Navicent are teaming up to bring awareness to traumatic brain injuries. March was proclaimed as Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Month in Macon-Bibb County.

At least 2.8 million Americans sustain traumatic brain injuries each year, and brain injury is a leading cause of death and disability in the U.S.

Traumatic brain injury can be prevented by wearing protective safety gear(like helmets) while playing sports; wearing seatbelts in a vehicle; having eye exams for older adults; evaluating the home and children’s play areas; and talking to a doctor about your risk for falling.
