As Mayor Lester Miller announced on February 1, he would be directing departments and hiring a private company to speed up the process of old trash and recycling cart collection throughout the county. The old carts belong to ADS/Waste Management, and it was taking too long for them to be removed from in front of people’s houses.
From Friday, February 4, to Thursday, February 10, county crews and WasteRec Services collected 12,764 carts. (This total does not include ADS, which is also collecting their carts.)
“I’m very proud of the speed at which our crews are removing the old carts from our neighborhoods,” says Mayor Miller. “This has been a major change for our entire county, and our crews have gone above and beyond throughout it all to help make it as smooth as possible.”
Ryland is assisting by emptying the old carts along the routes so that crews can more easily collect them. People should leave their old and empty carts out on the curb until a crew comes by to pick them up. The first pass will focus primarily on collecting the old green trash carts, but old blue carts are being collected. If you still do not have a new red or blue cart, you can put in a request at www.maconbibb.us/seeclickfix.
If residents would like to immediately get rid of their old carts, they can take them to our temporary Convenience Center at 920 11th Street.
