New Solid Waste collection and disposal plan requirement for Downtown businesses

January 5, 2023

On Tuesday, December 20, the Macon-Bibb County Commission passed an ordinance with the goal of ensuring Macon’s revitalizing downtown remains a clean and attractive place for citizens and visitors. The ordinance standardizes collection of solid waste in the Central Business District, which includes zoning districts CBD-1 and CBD-2.

Each owner, occupant, tenant, or lessee of developed property located in the Central Business District must meet minimum solid waste storage and collection requirements by either

1) entering into a written service contract with commercial solid waste provider that has been granted an active franchise from Macon-Bibb County or

2) receiving a waiver from this requirement, which is granted by the Macon-Bibb County solid waste inspector by demonstrating equivalent collection and disposal services.

During your business license renewal, please submit your solid waste collection and disposal vendor in your business license renewal application.

Please contact Tinsley Tavares, Macon-Bibb Solid Waste Inspector, at 478-803-0499 if you have any questions. Thank you for helping to ensure that the Macon-Bibb County Central Business District continues to grow and thrive.
