Mayor Pro Tem & District 9 Commissioner Al Tillman, Commissioner Virgil Watkins, and Lillie Gannt-Evans with Coalition for Better Macon are inviting all elected officials, nonprofit and community organizations, and the public to participate in a series of “Stop the Violence” events.

The next will be held on Saturday, November 9, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the lot next to 2281 Pio Nono Avenue and will feature prayer, a fish fry, free t-shirts, and comments from local leaders and those affected by gun violence. People attending are encouraged to wear the shirts or other apparel of the organizations they support that are working in the neighborhoods.

“We’re reaching out to all people to attend these events so we can say as one Macon-Bibb community that we are against gun violence,” says Mayor Pro Tem Tillman. “Our effort is more than a press conference or statements that something needs to be done…we want to work with people to find solutions.”

The first event was held on October 12 at the Buck Melton Community Center and included free haircuts and health screenings, local talent, and information from government offices and agencies.
