On Tuesday, September 26, a few state legislators stopped by the Middle Georgia Regional Airport to get a tour and update on what is happening at the airport. Mayor Lester Miller and Aviation Director Doug Faour greeted the group before making their way into the airport terminal.

The tour was one of nine stops the Georgia Airport Association (GAA) set up various legislators across the state. House Appropriations Chairs Matt Hatchett and Clay Pirkle, Director at Senate Budget and Evaluation Office Brent Churchwell, GAA Vice-President Amber Clark, and Senator Frank Ginn stopped by Macon for about an hour.

“The future of the airport is looking bright,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “We are doing a lot of things to help this airport grow and thrive for many years to come.”

Faour talked about the plans for the expansion of Runway 5 and how adding the extra 500 feet will make a vast difference to the airport that already makes $160 million a year in economic output.

“The Middle Georgia Regional Airport will be better suited to compete for business, and we will be successful,” said Faour. “We’ll be successful because of our proximity to the world’s busiest airport, our proximity to Robins Air Force Base, and our location in the center of the state.”

Georgia legislators were passengers on two general aviation flights visiting 9 of our 103 Georgia airports. Legislators were able to visit and inspect airport needs and review recent investments made to our Georgia Airport System.

“The GAA organized the flights and appreciates the time given by our State leaders to understand the need and value of our statewide aviation system.  The visit included stops in ten communities to tour the facilities and visit with local airport management, stakeholders, and local community leaders; all of which benefit from the investment Georgia has made to protect and expand its airports,” said the GAA.
