Carol Payton is a Macon native who has spent the past 43 years serving her community, and is now taking on a new role – retirement! That’s why she’s this week’s Staff Spotlight.
Most recently, Carol has served as the Assistant Clerk of Commission at City Hall, helping to prepare minutes, organize information, get ready for Commission Meetings, and work with the public on a regular basis. Carol played a pivotal role in our consolidation in 2014. At the time, she worked with the Middle Georgia Regional Commission and was the one who took notes and prepared minutes for the Consolidation Committee – a vital part of building a new government.
Carol’s supervisor, Clerk of Commission Janice Ross, says Carol’s demeanor made her a joy to work with, and made her the perfect person to handle delicate matters with citizens.
“Carol is one of the best people I know,” says Janice. “She’s loyal and kind. She’s very patient, and she’s great with people who call. She never loses her temper or patience. We’re happy for her on her new journey, but we’re selfishly going to miss her so much!”
Outside of work, Carol loves spending time with her family. She has two daughters, three granddaughters, and a grandson. Being a family woman came naturally, as she’s the second youngest of five kids. Carol says she’s passionate about Macon and helping people, and is proud to have had a career blending those two passions.
We asked Carol what her plans are in retirement.
“First of all, spending time with my family, my dog, Snowball, and my cat, Kiki! Everybody needs to retire at some point and enjoy life. Don’t have any regrets!”
Carol, we appreciate you and thank you for your more than four decades of service! We wish you all the best on your retirement. You’ll always be a part of #TeamMaconBibb!
