When the Fire Department’s Private Victoria Dumas isn’t busy fighting fires and helping people in our community, you can most likely find her inside of a boxing ring preparing for the next fight.
On Saturday, May 21, Dumas traveled to the Augusta Regional Airport to compete in the Boxing Expedition held by the Augusta Boxing Club. While this was an opportunity to add on to her number of fights, she took home a belt!
Dumas has been boxing for about a year, about the same time she has been with the Fire Department. She is a Northeast High School graduate where she played basketball, then went on to play basketball at Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC). During her time at CGTC, she peaked an interest at becoming a firefighter one day, so she enrolled and went through training.
“I love it. Every day is different and I know I’m giving back to my community,” said Dumas.
She says she has always wanted to take up boxing as well, so she did and fell in love with it. Her goal is to compete in the nationals one day.
“My advice for younger girls is to just go for it. If it’s something you want to do, and not many girls are doing it, just do it any way,” said Dumas. “Don’t let anything stop you. The sky is the limit.”
We are so proud to have Private Victoria Dumas on #TeamMaconBibb and are thrilled to see how much more she will accomplish.
