Staff Spotlight: Thomas Gillon

Our Board of Elections Office (BOE) officially has a new Elections Supervisor, and he’s a very familiar face. On Thursday, June 15, Judge Sarah Harris swore in Thomas Gillon, a week after our County Commission unanimously approved his appointment.

“I want to be a service to our community,” says Gillon. And he has been, since 2013, when he first worked at the BOE office recruiting poll workers. It runs in the family as his mother actually recruited him to be a poll worker many years ago. She was a poll manager for decades for our Board of Elections, working at the polling locations at City Hall and then Elam Alexander Academy on Ridge Avenue.

Gillon worked his way up to Interim Elections Supervisor in 2022, and now he is officially responsible for overseeing all elections in the County. His goal is to get more voters at the polls and will hopefully be able to do that as the new office moves into a bigger space at the Macon Mall.

“This is a much better-timed move since there isn’t an election coming up. It gives us time to get settled and test our systems,” says Gillon. “Having a larger space on our own is a huge benefit to our operations.”

This will also benefit voters as they won’t have to wait outside in the different weather conditions.

Gillon is looking forward to this new chapter and working alongside a great team.

“We have a fantastic staff here,” says Gillon. “From everyone I work with daily to our poll workers during an election.”
