Our Human Resources (HR) Department is responsible for so many things when it comes to taking care of our entire County staff. It’s no easy task, but our HR Assistant Director Joveta Turner says she loves what she does, that’s why she’s our Staff Spotlight this week!

Turner is responsible for day-to-day operations of a variety of divisions within the HR Department which include, benefits administration, compensation, risk management, recruitment and retention, and employee relations. She has been in her role since December 2020, but she started her career in HR in 2005 with the City of Macon. She left in 2017 for a few years but couldn’t stay away long.

“I always tell people that working for Macon-Bibb was so good that I couldn’t stay away…I had to come back home,” said Turner.

Since she came back, she is always looking for new and better ways to do her job. She recently completed her certificate in Human Resources Administration from the Georgia Municipal Association where, over the course of 5 weeks, she covered areas such as, Workers Compensation, Risk Management, Equal Employment Opportunity,  Title VII Compliance, Talent Acquisition, and Onboarding.

“The world of HR is constantly changing.  This training and certification provided valuable information on current HR laws and trends,” said Turner. “I am committed to my profession and to this organization, therefore, I want to maintain a high level of knowledge to ensure Macon-Bibb’s HR Department is performing effectively and efficiently in all areas. The training also provided a great opportunity to network with HR professionals from other municipalities in Georgia.”

Although Turner is originally from Dixie, Georgia, Middle Georgia has been her home for almost 20 years. After graduating from the Brooks County School District, she enrolled at Savannah State University where she received her BBA in Marketing. She later obtained her MBA in Human Resources Management.

When Turner isn’t working, you can catch her spending time with her son Jaxon, family, and friends. She also enjoys traveling, singing, and going to comedy shows and festivals.

Thank you for your commitment to #TeamMaconBibb, Joveta! We are so grateful for your leadership.
