This week we’re spotlighting two of our staff members who aren’t afraid to talk trash! Our Solid Waste Managers Eddie Leary and Maurice Jackson have been working hard to keep our community clean and running.
Eddie and Maurice are responsible for scheduling, coordinating with special events, cart deliveries and retrievals, overseeing the new Convenience Center, and so much more. They were also a vital duo during our recent solid waste service provider transition.
“It was challenging, but we knew we had to find a way to keep providing services for everyone in our community,” said Jackson. “As we work day by day, it’s getting better and better.”
Maurice has been with the Department for seven years. He started as a service worker and worked his way up to manager two years ago. The Macon native says what keeps him going is the team he works with every day, as well as our community.
“What I love most is my team. We’re like a family, we’re around each other more than our families,” said Maurice. “I also love being able to help our residents and resolve issues. We build personal relationships with them and let them know we’re here to help them.”
Eddie feels the same way. In fact, he says that’s what has kept him working with the Solid Waste Department for 37 years.
“It’s been a blessing. Years go by so quick,” said Eddie. “I enjoy what I’m doing. I started as an operator and worked my way up. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. Each day is a blessed day.”
We are so thankful for Eddie and Maurice and their commitment to our community. We’re proud to have them on #TeamMaconBibb!
