Change your clocks, change your batteries

This weekend we need set our clocks forward an hour as Daylight saving time begins at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 13. The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department uses this time every year to remind us to the check our smoke alarm batteries.

“Every three hours, someone in the United States dies in a home fire,” says Fire Safety Educator Sgt. Jeremy Webb. “We want to remind you that where you put your smoke alarm matters, so make sure you have them working on each floor, in hallways, living areas, and inside all bedrooms and sleeping areas. The sooner you hear an alarm, the more time you and your family have to escape.”

Sgt. Webb also reminds everyone to develop an escape plan with your family. If you need help doing this, or even need a smoke alarm for your home, contact the Fire Department at (478) 751-9180 and firefighters will come install one free of charge.
