The Macon-Bibb County Solid Waste Department is hosting its first Giving Others Lasting Foundations (G.O.L.F.) Golf Tournament at Historic Bowden Golf Course on Saturday, November 28 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
“During these unprecedented times, our community has been through a great deal, causing a lot of uncertainty within the community and shaking our foundations,” says Pat Raines, Solid Waste Department Director. “Nearly every single one of our employees is contributing personally to the United Way, but we wanted to do something more because we live and work in this community.”
There will be a limit of 50 teams in the G.O.L.F. Tournament, so call 478-742-1610 soon to register. The entrance fee is $150 for a two-person team and includes two mulligans and a raffle ticket. There will be cash payouts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, closest to the pin prized, and free lunch from Welch’s Meats.
“I cannot think of a better way to support our neighbors in need than through the United Way of Central Georgia fundraising golf tournament,” says Jack Dean, Head Golf Professional at Historic Bowden Golf Course. “This is the people’s golf course and is the perfect venue to help raise money for people struggling with basic needs such as food and shelter.”
“Special events are a vital part of our annual fundraising campaign,” said United Way of Central Georgia President and CEO George McCanless. “Our sincere thanks to Macon-Bibb County for creating this tournament that offers area golfers a fun yet competitive way to support their neighbors in need.“
Proceeds from the tournament will go towards the United Way of Central Georgia to help fund many initiatives to raise the people and communities of Central Georgia out of poverty. The country, state, and Central Georgia community are still in unprecedented times. People are struggling to meet basic needs like food and shelter more than ever and the need for help is greater than ever.
“Serving this community daily, we witness firsthand the needs, and we want to help people rebuild a solid and stable foundation,” adds Raines.
