A section of Skipper Road between Sardis Church and Jones Roads will close on February 15, 2018, to accommodate a road improvement project. (A map of the closure and detour is below.) Residents in the area will be provided access to their homes during construction. Improvements in the area include grading, road reclamation, storm drainage, and widening of the road, and the road is expected to reopen near the end of May 2018.

On October 31, 2017, Governor Nathan Deal announced that Amazon.com invest more than $90 million in Macon-Bibb County and would create more than 500 full-time jobs at a new fulfillment center. This will be Amazon’s fourth fulfillment center in the state. Road improvements along Sardis Church Road and Skipper Road are part of the agreement with Amazon to bring its new fulfillment center to Macon-Bibb. The improvements are funded, in part, by the State of Georgia with a REBA grant.

Amazon is leasing one million square feet of industrial space in Macon-Bibb for the facility. Newly created jobs will include warehouse, management and supervisory positions. Employees at the fulfillment center will receive comprehensive benefits starting on day one, including medical, dental and vision insurance as well as 401(k) options, performance-based bonuses and company stock awards. Amazon also offers fulltime employees innovative programs like Career Choice, where the company will pre-pay up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon.
