On Friday, May 27, nineteen Macon-Bibb County firefighters were officially promoted to the rank of Sergeant during a ceremony at Mikado Baptist Church. Dozens of their friends and families filled seats as they watched them receive their new rankings.

“We are so proud to celebrate and promote these firefighters,” said Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “These individuals have taken the next step in their careers, in their service to our community, and in their growth as leaders.”

The ceremony was live streamed and you can watch it here.

“Macon-Bibb is honored to have you talented men and women protecting our community,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “We will do everything possible to support you throughout this next journey.

This round of promotions was made possible with the move to a new schedule of shifts this past January. With the new shift schedule, more leadership positions became available.
