At its meeting on November 19, Mayor Lester Miller recommended and the Commission approved using money from school speed zone violations to fund multiple public safety projects.

“We have worked from the beginning of my administration to improve public safety, and that’s because thousands of people told me that was their top priorities,” says Mayor Miller. “That’s why we installed the school speed zone cameras in the first place – to slow down traffic – and now we’re going to use that money to make even more improvements.”

With this money, Macon-Bibb will provide up to $300,000 to the Bibb County School District to fund the employment of school crossing guards, up to $500,000 to install more flashing warning lights for school zones to make drivers more aware, and buy public safety equipment like Verkada camera systems, FLOCK cameras, body cameras, car cameras, tasers, drones, drone accessories, and radio equipment.

“We’re helping put people at our schools to make it safer for children, providing more warning to drivers so they slow down, and giving our public safety employees the best in technology and equipment to do their jobs protecting us,” says Mayor Miller.
