The Urban Development Authority (UDA) is continuing is the design process for Rosa Parks Square in Downtown Macon-Bibb County and is seeking input directly from the public through a series of public forums. A public forum will be held on Tuesday, November 22 at 5:00 p.m. in Commission Chambers at Government Center (700 Poplar Street).

Representatives from design firm HGOR and the UDA will present information about the design process to date and show several design alternatives that have been drafted. These alternatives will help people see what type of feedback people have provided throughout the process, and give participants a chance to comment on each so that a final design can be created. Once that design is created, it will be reviewed by the Macon-Bibb County Commission, Parks & Beautification Department, and UDA.

A design for Rosa Parks Square was identified as part of the Macon Action Plan as way to make it more usable for residents, businesses, and visitors, while making sure it remains a place where people can reflect on and learn about our history through the plaques, markers, and monuments there. HGOR and the UDA previously met with Commissioners to seek their input on July 19 and 26, and a public forum was held on July 27.

“We want to create a vibrant public space in the center of our Downtown that draws people to it, and while there, they have the chance to learn from the lessons of our past,” says Alex Morrison, Executive Director of the Urban Development Authority.
