Our Recreation Department took a well-deserved day to learn and celebrate its accomplishments on Friday, July 25. The team celebrated National Park and Recreation Month with a Luau-themed celebration at the Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center.

“We truly have the best staff, and they deserve to be celebrated,” said Recreation Director Robert Walker. “This celebration allowed us to all get together in one room, learn from one another, and celebrate our successes.”

The luau included food, games, music, team-building activities, and plenty of fun in true Hawaiian style for all 90 team members. This annual celebration highlights the vital role Parks & Recreation professionals play in building healthy communities through programs, facilities, and events that bring people together.

“I want to give a shoutout to my staff for the excellent job they have and also tell them to continue the hard work for our community here in Macon-Bibb County,” said Walker.

Earlier this month, the Recreation Department wrapped up its annual 6-week summer camp at eight different recreation centers where more than 500 students participated.
