Our Recreation Department is celebrating National Pickleball Month with events throughout April. At 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, Mayor Lester Miller will present a proclamation at Tattnall Square Pickleball & Tennis Center declaring April “National Pickleball Month” in Macon-Bibb.

Currently, the Department operates pickleball courts at four locations: John Drew Smith Tennis Center (3280 North Ingle Place), Randy Stephens Tennis Center at South Bibb Recreation Center (7035 Houston Road), Tattnall Square Pickleball & Tennis Center (1155 College Street), and at Sandy Beach Park at Lake Tobesofkee.

This month, people can play pickleball for free at each of these locations on April 4, April 13, April 20, and April 25. Some equipment will be available, but you’re encouraged to bring your own if you have it. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., everyone is encouraged to go to your favorite of these spots for a Community Night Out celebration. This event is also free to play. Typically, it’s $2 to play and $3 after 5:00 p.m. Visit MaconBibb.US/Recreation for additional info on play times, center hours, and costs.

Also throughout the month, there will be introductory classes at Tattnall Square Pickleball and Tennis Center to teach beginners the game of pickleball. Reach out to Macon Pickleball’s Facebook page if you are interested in joining.
