May 15 – 21 is National Police Week, and the Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation is holding its annual Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony as part of it. The service is at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 20, at Public Safety Memorial Park (intersection of Mulberry and Second streets). The event will be live-streamed on our Facebook page. Media is invited to attend and conduct interviews.
This year, there are sadly two new names added to the Bibb Sheriff’s Memorial. The names will be unveiled as we honor the life and memory of Christopher Wilson Knight and William “Bill” Warren Gay.
“It’s important that we gather to honor our Public Safety heroes who have given their lives while serving and protecting our community,” says Organizer Warren Selby. “We want everyone to remember each of these people and remember their sacrifice.”
During the Ceremony, all the names of our Police Officers, Sheriff’s Deputies, and Firefighters who lost their lives in the Line of Duty will be read, and an Honor Guard will place a rose at the base of the monument for each name will be read. This somber and reverent ceremony will also feature speakers, a prayer, and music.
