Beginning February 6, Macon-Bibb County’s Solid Waste Department began delivering more than 1,300 trash cans based on requests submitted through SeeClickFix. Deliveries continue on Fridays and Saturdays the next several weeks to meet the more than 1,400 requests submitted.
So far, the cans have been delivered to the east, west, and south areas of Macon-Bibb, and to the District Eight 5 x 5 Neighborhood Improvement Program area. The Department is now delivering trash cans to the north area of Macon-Bibb.
“The amount of requests we have for trash cans – one of our most basic and important municipal services – is very concerning,” says Solid Waste Director Kevin Barkley. “I know people will be glad we found the money in our budget to begin addressing the situation.” As they clear the list of duplicates or requests at vacant or abandoned properties, they will be able to deliver cans to more people.
While this delivery of carts is for current requests, Solid Waste wants to encourage people to submit request repairs or a new cart through Macon-Bibb’s online and mobile application SeeClickFix. People without online or mobile capabilities can make a request by calling Customer Service at 478-751-7400. Currently, carts can only be requested from Macon-Bibb by residents in the former city limits; residents in the unincorporated county are still served by Advanced Disposal and should contact the company with requests.
