The face of the Macon-Bibb Fire Department is changing. Since many people have retired in the past two years and during the Early Retirement Incentive Program, the way opened up for a new set of leaders to step up. And more than 130 did!

In February, the Fire Department named its first ever female chief, as well as six new Battalion Chiefs, 26 new Fire Captains, 33 new Lieutenants, and 67 new Sergeants. Each moving up is ready to fill the shoes of those who came before them, and continue the work of protecting Macon-Bibb County.

“They’re well trained, the organization is strong, so I’m excited about it,” says Chief Marvin Riggins. “We have a brand new Macon-Bibb community, so here we are starting anew with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department.”
