Autotrader and Youmans Chevrolet believe every dog deserves a safe ride and a forever home, so on Saturday, August 27, they will host five Macon-Bibb area rescue organizations and offer free pet adoptions and fun pet gear from 9:00 am. – 3:00 p.m. at Youmans Chevrolet (2020 Riverside Drive, Macon, GA 31204). This event is to honor National Dog Day and Autotrader’s annual publication of its “Best Cars and Accessories for Dog Lovers” accolade list.
All attendees will get a free “doggie bag” filled with pet gear and can learn about the pet-friendly features and accessories offered by Chevrolet. Adopting families must have an adult 21 years or older present, meet all adoption requirements, and show proper ID. Adoptions agents will be on site from Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare, Furever After Rescue, Pawsome Southern Rescue, Peach County Animal Rescue, Gentle Giants of Georgia, and Rock On Rescue.“We want to encourage more people to give shelter or rescue dogs a ride to their forever homes,” says Kimberly Reid, Advertising Consultant for Autotrader. “According to the American Pet Products Association (APPA), approximately 3.9 million dogs enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 1.2 million dogs are euthanized and 1.4 million are adopted each year.”

Reid adds that more than 54 million American households own a dog, according to a July 2016 Autotrader Quick Poll data. More than three in four (77 percent) of dog owners say their dogs enjoy car rides. Over half of dog owners (52 percent) take their dogs on car trips at least once per week. Eight out of ten (79 percent) take them at least once per month.
