A group of Macon-Bibb teammates is working to strengthen our workforce with a new program aimed at employee health. Macon Wellness Matter comprises 20 committee members and 20 participants, all who work in our consolidated government. The program features a lunch and learn series, competitive games and challenges, team workouts, nutrition and cooking advice, exercise classes, and a mental health focus to help our employees feel better from the inside out.

Program Coordinator Shannon Dobbs works in our Human Resources Department and says she’s proud to be a part of this initiative. “We’ve started with a smaller group of people from all different departments to figure out what works, what individual needs may be, and find out which activities will motivate everyone to get active and healthy. The goal is to roll this out to all our county employees following a few months of practice with this targeted group.”

So far, there’s been a kickoff event, daily exercise challenges, a hydration challenge, educational classes, pickleball tutorials and more. The county has partnered with Atrium Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and the Cooperative Extension Office to provide services to employees.
