Mayor Lester Miller declared Saturday, April 9, 2022 as Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church to celebrate its 60th anniversary. The church began April 9, 1962. 

Reverend A. J. Shaw was elected the founding pastor of the church, and Secretary of the State of Georgia issued the church a charter of incorporation for 35 years on June 8, 1962. Our Executive Director of Community Affairs, Dr. Henry Ficklin, was called to pastor the church in February 1978, and under his leadership the church has continued to flourish, establishing the church choir, the Praise team, and the Young Adult Choir.
