Macon-Bibb County celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a fiesta on Saturday, October 7! Hundreds of people from all over the state made their way downtown to join in the fun at the 2nd annual Hispanic Festival in Rosa Parks Square. The festival was organized by NotiVision Georgia, in partnership with Macon-Bibb County. 

The festival kicked off with Bibb County students dressed in Hispanic wardrobe and holding flags from every Hispanic country, followed by Mayor Lester Miller, Bibb County School District Superintendent Dan Sims, Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Norma Zuniga Cardoza, and festival organizers.  

14-year-old Durham Rufino from Westside High School was recognized for creating artwork called “Spanish Treasures” that was featured on the Festival’s promotional flyers. 

“Seeing everyone from so many different backgrounds come together to celebrate different, beautiful cultures, was truly inspiring,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “This was a great opportunity for many people who typically don’t get to see downtown Macon to come out and see what our community is all about. It was a great day!”  

The festival had food trucks inspired by Mexican, Columbian, and Venezuelan dishes, as well as vendors from all over the state, and community organizations and businesses. There were dancers, musicians, and entertainment for the whole family throughout the day.
