Crews from Macon-Bibb County’s Public Works Department will begin tearing down the abandoned house at the corner of Log Cabin Drive and Hollingsworth Road on Thursday, November 5, at 11:00 a.m. Prior to the demolition, a short press conference will be hosted by Mayor Robert Reichert and District 9 Commissioner Al Tillman.

This demolition makes way for the coming road improvement project, which is being funded by the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). The house is being torn down in advance of the Hollingsworth Road-Log Cabin Drive intersection being realigned to make it safer for the entire neighborhood.

“This community has waited a long time for this project to begin, and I’m excited that our consolidated government is finally making it happen and is improving safety for everyone that lives here and walks or drives through here,” says Commissioner Tillman. “With this project and the soon-to-begin Filmore Thomas Park SPLOST project, we are fulfilling promises made for years to the residents, and I know they are excited for the progress being made.”

The Log Cabin Drive improvement project will include a new pedestrian bridge and repairs to the current roadway bridge over Rocky Creek; constructing new curb and gutter, sidewalk, drainage swales, drainage structures and driveways; realign the intersection of Hollingsworth Road and Log Cabin Drive; adding a northbound left-turn-lane on Log Cabin Drive at Hollingsworth Road; and more.
