Kids participating in the Historic Macon Foundation’s camp this summer got an exclusive tour of City Hall and the opportunity to hear from our county leaders, including Mayor Lester Miller.
The Box City Summer Camp introduces campers to urban design and historic preservation through interactive activities. The week-long camp is for ten rising 4th through 6th graders in our community. On Wednesday, July 20, they were able to get a glimpse into how local government works.
The campers went into the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) bunker to learn about what it takes to declare something an emergency and how people work together to protect our community. Once they were done, they went to City Hall’s Chambers where Commissioners make important decisions about our County.
“It’s always a great opportunity to have kids who are curious come out here and learn about what it takes to run our government,” said Mayor Miller. “We had a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see what they take away from this experience.”
