Our community is coming together to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a festival in Downtown Macon on Saturday, September 17, in front of City Hall (700 Poplar Street).

The Festival is being held by the Office of Small Business Affairs (OSBA), Notivision Georgia, and Mercer University. There will be family friendly activities, live music, food trucks, games, giveaways, vendors, and a kid zone from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. There will be a performance at 2:30 p.m. from the Familia Madrigal from Disney’s movie Encanto and a meet and greet following the performance. The consulates of Guatemala, Dominican Republic, and Honduras will also be in attendance.

“We are excited to celebrate this important month with our community and surrounding neighbors,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “There are many different Hispanic cultures we could all benefit from learning about through food, music, and spending time with one another.”

The event is free and open to everyone. There will also be a food distribution for families in need, Helping Mamas will distribute free diapers, and CORE will be on site to administer free COVID-19 vaccines. Alcohol is not permitted at event.

“Over the next month, the Office of Small Business Affairs will celebrate the rich history and many contributions of the Hispanic community in Macon-Bibb County,” says OSBA Director Charise Stephens. “As the Hispanic population continues to grow in Macon, we want to make sure our office is equipped to help entrepreneurs by providing resources and technical assistance in their native language. We hope this festival will continue to foster this connection and bring us closer to our mission of promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for all.”

Every year, the United States observes National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. The month is aimed to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
