“People who experience homelessness go through all types of trials and tribulations. They can be members of our families, friend,” said Mayor Miller, thanking the Farm Bureau for helping out the people we know and love.

“The heart of the Farm Bureau is helping others and helping people,” says Director of Public Relations and Information Kenny Burgamy, pointing out it was their Employee Committee that came up with this idea. “This is a great way to give back to a community that has been so good to the Farm Bureau.”

With Georgia Farm Bureau’s home office located in Macon-Bibb County since the 1940’s, and serving as the fourth largest employer here, it consistently looks for opportunities to help improve and support the needs in the community.

“The importance of the warming center and the idea behind its mission is part of Farm Bureau’s commitment to protecting Georgian families and making a positive impact through local efforts,” said Georgia Farm Bureau President Tom McCall. “As a grassroots organization with 158 offices around the state, we understand the power of community members working together for a greater tomorrow.”

Steve Bell, Director of the Warming Center, pointed out several success stories for people, beyond just providing safe and warm shelter. They have helped people find housing, jobs, and transportation to needed services.

“It’s a testament to the empathy and love this community has ; it is a testament to the love Georgia Farm Bureau has for the citizens of this community,” said Bell. He points out there biggest need is volunteers to work in the Center and donations to buy individual supplies or even transit costs for people to go to a job interview.

If you would like to help support the residents at the Brookdale Warming Center, consider volunteering your time or making a donation to the Central Georgia COVID-19 Response & Recover Fund. To volunteer, add your name to the list by clicking here.
