The Gardens at Brookdale are growing, and it’s all thanks to amazing volunteers who are quite literally planting opportunities for residents at the Brookdale Resource Center. The 50 garden beds are aimed to feed about 100 residents fresh food from their backyard. 

This week, employees at MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union, Master Gardeners of Central Georgia, and Delta Sigma, Inc. took time out of their days to fertilize and spread mulch around the garden beds.  

This Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, there is another opportunity for you to help. We need help planting the next wave of seeds to grow more vegetables including green beans, squash, and corn. You can sign up here, or you can just show up to volunteer between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Bring gloves and water!

“The Gardens at Brookdale is sprouting new life and new volunteer opportunities! Many thanks to our volunteers who came out to fertilize and mulch plants,” said Gardens  Manager Susan Fisher. “It won’t be long until everything is big and producing and we will need many hands to help tend and harvest so we can help feed the residents at Brookdale Resource Center!” 

The Gardens is also adding blueberries! You can sign up to volunteer and even learn more about planting and taking care of blueberries at your home on Thursday, April 27, at 6:00 p.m. Registration is required for this opportunity, and you can do so by emailing bibb.extension@uga.edu or calling (478) 751-6338.
