One of the most popular places in Macon-Bibb’s Unionville neighborhood is the Frank Johnson Recreation Center…but it was in need of some repairs and upgrades. Now, thanks to the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), the Center is getting $939,000 worth of them.

Watch this MaconBibbTV feature to hear from Johnson’s wife, Dorothy,
and project leaders about what’s coming to the recreation center.

Improvements and upgrades include a welcoming new entrance, a computer lab, new open meeting spaces, security upgrades, new bathrooms, doors, paint, and more! And that’s just Phase 1 of the overall plan. Phase 2 will include a new gym and weight room.

At the Groundbreaking Ceremony on March 17, the family of Frank Johnson says that he and the family are proud to have his name on the Center that impacts the lives of so many people in the community he loves.
