On May 14, PR Daily announced the winners of its Communicators of the Year program, and Chris Floore, Public Affairs for Macon-Bibb County, was named Government Communicator of the Year. He was also awarded the same recognition last year when the program was called the Achieving Communications Excellence program. Click here for PR Daily’s feature on the award.

Chris was recognized for “his ongoing efforts in engaging the county citizenry and elevating Macon-Bibb’s profile statewide” because “government communication has special challenges—even more so when the official entity is in its infancy.”

“I’m exceptionally proud of Chris for his accomplishments and what he has done for our consolidated government,” says Mayor Robert Reichert. “His skill as a communicator is only exceeded by his enthusiasm for this community.”

“People deserve to regularly hear from us, especially as we continue to build and strengthen this fairly new government,” says County Manager Dr. Keith Moffett. “Whether its public meetings or severe weather or daily operations, our Public Affairs team pushes to remain out front to help people understand what’s going on and help us understand how what we do impacts our friends and neighbors.”

“Building a communication program to support the creation of a new government for Georgia’s fourth-largest city has been one of the most rewarding opportunities of my career,” says Chris. “What we are able to do to reach people and to help provide them better services is only possible thanks to the work of our entire Public Affairs team and the support of our administration, departments, partners, and elected officials.”

Chris manages Macon-Bibb’s Office of Public Affairs, which was created in January 2014 to lead strategic communication efforts across all channels in a way that reaches as many as possible. It is tasked with provided current, relevant, accurate, and timely information to the public, and to provide the public an effective way to request services, ask questions, and voice concerns or needs.

“Chris set himself apart from an outstanding field of entrants. His work – and his team’s – is exceptional and displays their innovative strategies for achieving success. We look forward to your continued success,” said Brendan Gannon, Marketing Manager for Awards Programs at Ragan Communications and PR Daily.

This recognition follows several others earned by the Office of Public Affairs in the past several years, including:

• Chris being named Government Communicator of the Year by PRNews in 2019, PR Daily in 2018, and the City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) in 2015, and being named part of PRSA Georgia’s inaugural 40 Under 40 Inductees in 2019;

• Chris being a finalist for the top communication award by PRNews in 2018 and by the National Association of Government Communicators two years in a row;

• four awards from the National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO) for the Solid Waste Services Change Infographic, the Public Affairs Annual Report, Tropical Storm Irma Debris Collection Infographic, and for departmental logos;

• two from PR Daily for the Women of Macon-Bibb Instagram Campaign and Public Affairs Annual Report;

• multiple rankings by SeeClickFix as one of the top teams for customer service in the country for processing and closing nearly 15,000 service requests every year; and

• Chris being included on ELGL’s annual Traeger List of Top Local Government Influencers three consecutive years; and

• A national award from 3CMA for Macon-Bibb County’s Forward Together Strategic Plan.
