On Saturday, April 23, our Fire Department held its annual Firefighters Competition and this year, combined it with Family Day.
About 500 firefighters and family members – s gathered at Henderson Stadium to watch men and women from different stations compete in the competition. It consisted of ten teams, each with nine firefighters, participating in several agility obstacles, including everyday firefighter skills.
During this competition and before, their families grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, and ribs. Children were also entertained by bounce houses and games.
“This was a way to get for us to get firefighters back together with their home and work families in a relaxed atmosphere,” said Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “It’s all about the camaraderie of our team, and events like this are what keep the morale high.”
They had about $1,400 worth of prizes to raffle off, which included gift cards and t-shirts. The grand prize was a one-night stay at Hotel 45, along with cocktails and dinner for two.
The winner of this year’s competition was Battalion 1 Shift B. They will now go on to represent the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department in the Georgia State Firefighter Competition in the Fall.
