Light of Light Films is scheduled to be in Downtown Macon-Bibb from March 7-12 for a new feature film, unDEFILED. While setup, filming, and breakdown will occur all week, the main impact to the public will be on March 12. There will be crews on private property and in Historic Luther Williams Field from March 7-11, and on March 12, they will be in Rosa Parks Square; in front and on the first floor of Government Center; and on parts of 5th and Lower Poplar Streets from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
“Our community is attractive for so many reasons, and I love the movie industry has put some great safety measures in place so they can film here,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “We are an open and welcoming community, and industries across our country recognize that and want to be a part of it.”
Actual filming will take place from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. in Rosa Parks Square and in and around Government Center. The building will remain open to the public, though there may be a slight delay at certain doors as filming occurs. The inbound lanes of Poplar Street will also be closed to vehicular traffic during this time. There will also be filming on 5th Street and Lower Poplar Street that day from 12:00 – 9:00 p.m.
“We first decided to shoot part of unDEFILED in Macon-Bibb it provided the exact setting we needed for this baseball-themed film. However, when we started looking around we found a host of other locations perfectly suited to the film,” says Light of Life Films Producer Matthew McCaulley. “To seal the deal, the people here – from government to businesses to local residents – made the entire process straightforward and simple. They were beyond kind and helpful, they treated our production team like royalty!”
“We’re an attractive community for film project of all types, and were particularly attractive to Undefiled because of Historic Luther Williams Field, given the minor league baseball aspects of the project,” says Aaron Buzza, Visit Macon Vice President of Development. “As we have seen with other projects filmed here in the last year, producers are taking a great deal of care to ensure the health and safety of cast, crew, and the public as it relates to helping prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
unDEFILED is a faith-based feature film inspired by true events. An aging and addiction-ridden minor league ballplayer finally gets a shot at his dreams, but grabbing the opportunity will mean turning his back on a secret terrible enough to cost a young girl her life.
This television filming follows several movies and shows that have filmed in Macon-Bibb, including The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings, Wise Blood, A Trip to Bountiful, The Crazies, Trouble with the Curve, 42, Need For Speed, The Fifth Wave, The Best of Enemies, Zombieland: Double Tap, and Justice on Trial. Several television shows have also filmed here, including Brockmire, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Witches of East End, Watchmen, Lovecraft Country, The Go-Big Show, and FLOTUS.
