The Emergency Management Agency (EMA) will hold an Open House at its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) next to City Hall during Downtown Macon’s First Friday festivities on FridayMay 1, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

People will have a chance to tour the EOC, also known as “the bunker,” where they’ll learn about its history, see how operations function during severe weather, and explore where decisions about the community’s response are made. They will also be able to leave with items needed in their home emergency response kits and other ways to prepare their families. The EMA’s Mobile Command Vehicle (MCV) will also be available to for tours, giving visitors a chance to see how emergency teams can operate and respond directly from the field during incidents and major events.

“Preparedness isn’t just for emergency responders – it’s for everyone,” says EMA Special Projects Officer Sophie Rosen. “This open house gives residents the tools, knowledge, and confidence to be ready before disaster strikes.”

In addition to the tours, the EMA and NewTown Macon are working with local businesses to offer storm-themed drinks.
