This month, students in the Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS) took a trip to our Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to learn about emergency preparedness and what officials do to keep us safe during inclement weather.
“The Emergency Management Agency is honored to be a part of the GCAPS program,” said EMA Director Spencer Hawkins. “The students were engaged in learning about a unique aspect of public safety. Any opportunity we have to share our passion for public safety and local government with the next generation of leaders is a good one.”
Students were able to tour the bunker where public safety officials gather during a storm or warning and were able to learn about what goes into each of those meetings that help keep our community safe . They also learned about how they and their families can prepare for emergencies.
