It’s that time of year again where you need to start looking for a new annual calendar, and our Emergency Management Agency (EMA) can help you do just that. This week, the EMA released its first Emergency Preparedness Calendar and distributed them to several local schools.

The calendars were part of an art contest with schools from across Macon-Bibb County. Fourteen students’ art from Howard High , L.H. Williams Elementary, Springdale Elementary, Vineville Academy of the Arts, and Westside High were picked to be featured in the calendar. Each picture matches the preparedness  theme for  that month .

“We hope emergency preparedness becomes a constant conversation in people’s homes with these calendars,” said EMA Special Projects Officer Sophie Rosen. “It can be scary to talk about the potential of a disaster, but allowing the space to understand what to do is critical to one’s safety.”

The calendar also features “To Do” checklists for each month. “It is important for families to do that at the minimum to ensure they understand what to do in times of an emergency,” said Rosen.

In addition to the schools listed above, you can pick up a free calendar at the Courthouse (601 Mulberry Street), Tax Commissioner’s Office (188 3rd Street), City Hall (700 Poplar Street), and Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center (132 Willie Smokie Glover Drive).
