On Wednesday, May 31, County Manager Dr. Keith Moffett took Department Heads and community partners on a tour of several priority projects, including the Brookdale Resource Center, renovations inside the Macon Mall, and the ongoing construction of the new outdoor amphitheater.

“I wanted to make sure every director saw how their department’s work was important to each of these projects,” he says. “So many people play an integral role in their success but may not get a chance to actually see the result of their work. So, we took them behind the scenes, showed them the impact on the community, and thanked them for their involvement.”

They first went to the Brookdale Resource Center and were given a tour of both the residential facility and Hello House by Dr. Jake Hall and Alison Bender. Susan Fisher with the Bibb County Cooperative Extension showed them around the flourishing Gardens. They saw rooms, beds, intake, the Gardens, the kitchen, and new showers and laundry facility.

“We’re able to help so many people through the Center, and it’s because of the work of the community and our departments,” says Dr. Moffett. “They needed to see the results of their work and how people’s lives are being improved.”

The tour then moved to the Macon Mall to see the new offices being built in the Macon Mall, including new courtrooms, Picklemall, Board of Elections, P&Z, Safebuilt, Library, Literacy Alliance, and Regional Commission. They were then treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the under-construction outdoor amphitheater. There, they were joined by staff from OVG360 (which manages the Auditorium and Coliseum and will be managing the amphitheater) and Visit Macon.
