On Thursday, April 23, Macon-Bibb County demolished the 100th and 101st house since July 1, 2014. These two structures were located at 555 and 581 Cynthia Avenue, just off of Second Street and across from Elam Alexander Academy.
“These demolitions put us almost two months ahead of our effort last year. Addressing blight has been a top priority for the government for many years, with house demolition being the most visible. In recent months, Macon-Bibb County has formed a Blight Task Force to prepare for the issuance of $14 million in bonds that will help find new ways to address blight, improve infrastructure, create a sustainable neighborhood model, engage the community, and continue the demolitions.
