Input sought for Delores A. Brooks Community Center improvements

The Macon-Bibb County Recreation Department is planning for the next phase of improvements at Delores A. Brooks Community Center (formerly known as East Macon Recreation Center). WM2A Architects will help develop a master plan for the Recreation Center, beginning with three public forums at the Center.

The third and final forum will be held on Thursday, November 9 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Rosa Jackson Community Center at 1211 Maynard Street. The forum has been moved to the Rosa Jackson Community Center because the Delores A. Brooks Community Center is closed while repairs are made to its sewage lift station.

Delores A. Brooks Recreation Center is slated to receive $2.4 million from the voter-approved 2018 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). Developing a master plan with this input will let the Recreation Department and Commission better understand how the community would like the Center used now and in the future. Through these meetings, designers WM2A are developing preliminary drawings, seeking additional feedback, and then providing a final drawing to the public before presenting to the Commission.

In 2015, the Recreation Department held a similar series of meetings to plan for improvements at Elaine H. Lucas Center, Central City Park, Frank Johnson Recreation Center, Freedom Park, Memorial Gym, Rosa Jackson Community Center, and the South Bibb Recreation Center. Those projects are already complete or underway, and video highlights from MaconBibbTV of those projects can be found using the links below.
